Well, this is an interesting development.

Well, this is certainly an interesting development.

For fans of the Detroit Red Wings who utilized the parking lot adjacent to the historic Masonic Temple on Cass Avenue across from Little Caesars Arena, there was simply no avoiding the eyesore of the dilapidated house that was one of the final remaining "holdouts" who has not sold to the Ilitch family.

But now, the house that dates back to the late 1800's is no more. A mysterious fire broke out in the structure last night, and the house has completely burned to the ground.

“From my understanding, the structure had to come down anyway,” explained listing agent Shane Parker, broker owner of S&P Realty in Grosse Pointe Park. “Shocking it came down this way. I was a little shocked this morning when I woke up. But nevertheless continuing onward.”

"We were selling it as vacant land, so I guess nothing changes there. It will still be sold as vacant land listed at $2.5 million," Parker said later Monday morning. “It was due to be demoed at some point, because knocking it down was going to be the only option.”

So far, no word as to the cause of the blaze has been released.

"At this time we still don't have a cause, it's still under investigation, we'll have some details at a later time," Chief James Harris said.
