Jersey numbers revealed for new Red Wings players

There are several new faces in town!

Red Wings Feed

The Detroit Red Wings entered the 2022 National Hockey League free agency period with over $30 million in cap space, and they certainly put it to good use. General manager Steve Yzerman was among the busiest executives in hockey last month, bringing aboard the likes of Andrew Copp, David Perron, Dominik Kubalik, Olli Maatta, and Ben Chiarot. And that was already on top of his acquisition of goaltender Ville Husso from the St. Louis Blues the previous week.

Needless to say, the 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings will be looking far different than last year's version that finished dead last defensively in the NHL. And now, fans have a better idea of what the roster that hits the ice October 14 at Little Caesars Arena for the regular season opener against the Montreal Canadiens will look like.

The new uniform numbers for Detroit's new acquisitions have been released, and there are a few familiar numbers that will now be worn by the new faces. Husso will be wearing the No. 35 that once belonged to Jimmy Howard, while Andrew Copp will be wearing the No. 18 once donned by Kirk Maltby and Ian White. Meanwhile, Ben Chiarot will be taking No. 8, which was briefly worn last year by Jake Walman; he's since switched to the old No. 96 worn by 4-time Stanley Cup winner Tomas Holmstrom.
