Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings officially selected their man, having selected help on the offensive side of the puck by taking Austrian-born center Marco Kasper with the No. 8 overall selection in Day 1 of last month's 2022 NHL Draft.

According to Yzerman, Kasper figures to fit into their future top-6 and will also be able to play all three forward positions.

"Well, he probably can play all three forward positions, but we drafted him as a counterman," Yzerman explained shortly after the pick was made. "We think he has underrated skill and has the ability to play in our top 6. One day, I can't tell you if it's next year or if it's the year after, but we have high hopes for him and we are very excited to pick him."

And fans now know Kasper's intentions for next season, as he confirmed that he will be playing in Sweden this year for Rögle in the Swedish Hockey League.

“I want to do the third year (of high school) and graduate,” Kasper told HD-Sporten. “I’ve always said that I want to do my schooling everywhere. Schools are important to me.”

The 18 year-old center scored seven goals with four assists playing with Rögle in 2021-22, also scoring six goals with seven assists in 12 games played for their junior squad.
