Regular season hockey returns to Little Caesars Arena tonight, as the Detroit Red Wings host the Montreal Canadiens in the first of their 82 game season schedule. It certainly will be a rowdy atmosphere tonight in downtown, as fans will once again get a chance to get up close and personal with the players with the special red carpet Hollywood style entrance.

Head coach Derek Lalonde has already released tonight's lineup that doesn't include 2018 1st round draft pick Filip Zadina or second year Red Wings forward Pius Suter, though he hinted that they won't have to wait long to get back onto the ice. And now, he's revealed who will be getting the start between the pipes.

Newcomer Ville Husso will be getting his first start as a Red Wing tonight against the Habs, while last offseason's acquisition in Alex Nedeljkovic will be starting tomorrow night against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.

Husso, who was acquired by the Red Wings this summer in a deal with the St. Louis Blues, is certainly looking forward to tonight.

“I’m excited,” Husso said. “It’s going to be a fun night, especially playing at home.”

He said of his preseason: “It was good to get out there and try to find a routine and read the plays and all that stuff. I think the results could have been a little better, get a couple wins, but we got a good week to practice and fix some things and I feel ready.”

According to Lalonde, he sees both netminders getting plenty of time in the crease this season.

“We had a little discussion of what made sense and who gets the home game, who gets the road game and that’s what we came up with,” Lalonde  explained.

“Early on we foresee both of them getting the net, a lot of the net and probably an equal share of the net and let it play out from there. We want a healthy competition, and it feels like it’s playing out that way from preseason, camp.”
