Steve Yzerman opens door for another franchise legend to return!

Will he be coming back too?

The Detroit Red Wings brought another former franchise legend into the fold yesterday, as 7-time Norris Trophy winning defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was hired as Vice President of Hockey Operations. The Red Wings now boast two of the greatest players in NHL history as key members of their front office, as Steve Yzerman currently serves as GM.

Could another former captain soon come aboard? Yzerman recently explained on "The Stoney and Jansen Show" that the door is open for Henrik Zetterberg to return to Hockeytown's front office.

"I think he’s still enjoying the first couple years of retirement here, having some fun," Yzerman said Wednesday on the Stoney & Jansen Show. "He does spend some time in Detroit. He’s another guy that is very smart and very level-headed and very astute that if someday he wants to get involved in hockey and get back into it a little bit more, we’d certainly love to have him."

"We got a lot of these former Red Wing players not only that I played with but also came after me. They’re really good guys, really smart. I’m not sure how many vice presidents we can have, but if guys want to get involved and find a role, we’ll find a role for them certainly."

Zetterberg, who would later be named Red Wings captain following the retirement of the legendary Lidstrom, called it a career in 2018.
